The owner, a first-time Land Rover enthusiast, bought a clean, rust-free 1990 Range Rover Classic with 160k miles and has been working through cosmetic and mechanical updates while using it as a daily driver. Work so far covers paint correction, interior re-trim, suspension bushings, wheel refinishing, and a steering and front axle repair after relocating the truck across the country. How it was done
Starting condition
The owner found a rust-free, clean-history 1990 Range Rover Classic with about 160k miles after nearly a year of searching, and bought it needing some work but nothing drastic.
Paint and trim
Early work focused on cosmetics: a detail shop removed paint tint and bubbling, followed by a paint correction done by the owner. The cracking wood trim was sanded and wrapped in an inexpensive vinyl wood finish, and the wheels were refinished in black along with the rear bumper and side caps.
Mechanical servicing and interior
The A/C system was converted to R134a, with oil, diff fluid, brakes and fuel filter also serviced. The owner then began fitting sound deadening (Dynamat and Dynaliner) and planned a new carpet kit and headliner, alongside new body and poly suspension bushings and a Bilstein steering damper.
Suspension and steering repairs
After the bushings were installed, the truck began driving noticeably better. Following a cross-country move, a steering box leak was found, leading to a shop visit where the power steering pump, lines, wheel bearings, a rear axle shaft and both front swivel balls and hubs were replaced.
